2nd Generation Limit: Claims are generally limited to a parent or grandparent. Great-grandparents are not included unless in specific historical cases.
General: Applicants must provide comprehensive documentation proving their lineage to an Indian citizen+Specific Documents: Birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates (if applicable)+All foreign documents must be apostilled if from Hague Convention countries or authenticated by the Indian Mission in non-Hague countries+Documents must be translated into English or Hindi by authorized translators+Additional Proof of Lineage: Other supporting documents may be required to establish eligibility
The ancestor must have been an Indian citizen at some point+Special provisions exist for those whose parents/grandparents were citizens of British India+If the ancestor voluntarily acquired another citizenship before June 1950, it could affect eligibility
Criminal Record: A clean criminal record is required+The applicant should not be or have been a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh+Must not have been included in a Denied Entry List or any other negative list by the Indian government+Applicant must be a citizen of another country (India doesn't allow dual citizenship, OCI is not technically citizenship)
